You are there, in front of the ball. You watch her and it seems simple. It is still and you just have to strike the right shot to achieve your goal, the hole. And it is that the theory of golf is quite easy at a glance, especially when the basic principles of this sport are known. However, the difficulty appears when it comes to putting this theory into practice.

Surely, before you started in the world of golf, all the shots seemed the same to you. However, the strokes are executed in very different ways and can be classified according to the movement of the ball, the moment in which they are used and their usefulness.

Tee shot

As its name indicates, it is the blow with which the game begins. The club to use will vary depending on the length and design of the hole. Normally, wood is used for long holes, while irons are preferred for par 3s or for holes that, despite being long, require a shorter shot.

Approach

The translation of this term comes to mean "approach" and, therefore, its objective is to bring the ball closer to the green. It is characterized by being a short stroke and is executed with two types of sticks: the sand wedge or the pitching wedge.

Drive

This is a long-distance shot that can be made from the tee or from the fairway or fairway. As expected, it is executed with the driver stick and its purpose is to bring the ball closer to the green.

Putt

Like the Approach, it is a short distance hit. In this case, the ball must roll without taking off the ground, demanding the greatest possible precision since there must be a control of the speed and the line in order for the ball to end up in the hole. It is done with the putter and is carried out on or around the green.

Lay up or safety blow

In this case, we speak of a blow to which we resort to avoid an element that hinders such as water or a bunker. His intention is to leave the ball in a better position for the next shot.

Chip

It is a blow that is executed with an intermediate club with a preferably closed face. It is a short approach shot in which the ball will be rolling longer on the ground than air.

Flop or balloon

We find a short shot in which the ball travels through the air and lands softly on the green. It is played with the clubface open and is one of the most difficult shots to achieve.
